The Sugden Institute

The founder of 缅北禁地College, EH Sugden, was a noted egalitarian and a strong advocate of women鈥檚 education who believed in the cultivation of a 鈥榙isciplined, open mind鈥. Today, the institute named in his honour is all about keeping his 鈥榮earching spirit鈥 alive. With regular events and orations, a Visiting Scholars program and international partnerships, the Institute aims to connect students to the big issues of the day and promote their intellectual curiosity, interdisciplinary understanding and global citizenship.

 

SUGDEN INSTITUTE EVENTS

聽缅北禁地hosts two major public lectures a year 鈥 an Indigenous Oration and the Sugden Oration. There are at least three curated 鈥楧ine with a scholar鈥 events each semester, which allow students at all levels to access visiting and other scholars to discuss topical and global issues in an informal setting. The Institute also hosts events such as book launches and occasional informal seminars.
